Ever since 60 Minutes ran their now famous piece on resveratrol, showing that studies revealed that this could be a scientific breakthrough that enables human beings to look and feel younger, many have sought an easy and cost-effective way to buy resveratrol supplements.

It has also been suggested that taking resveratrol might help people who want to lose weight.

Wait, there’s even more…

There have also been studies that have shown resveratrol has promise as an effective cholesterol-lowering compound, as well as a tool to help protect against cancer. Okay, so that’s a tremendous amount of benefits. If even half of that is true, it sounds like a pretty promising thing.

But then the question is — if you want to buy resveratrol, what do you look for in resveratrol supplements?

Here are some guidelines:

The number one thing is go with a company that has a repuation for quality products. When I say high quality, I mean something that contains enough active resveratrol to actually produce results. I’m just hammering home the point — I know it seems obvious.

Also, just remember that since resveratrol isn’t considered a “drug,” it isn’t regulated or tested by agencies like the FDA — this means it doesn’t have to pass the same tests that pharmaceutical companies have to go through.

In other words, you might be sold a bottle of air that supposedly contains Resveratrol. I’m sure you’ve probably seen that the media has been reporting that in at least a few cases, bottles of resveratrol have been mislabeled. So of course it’s important to ensure that the supplement you’re getting really is resveratrol. Another point that should be pretty obvious, I know.

One of the easiest ways to make sure that you don’t wind up regretting your purchase is simply to only go through a company that’s willing to give you a free trial of their product first. This is a great test — no one, you would think, would be willing to let you try their product for free unless they were pretty confident in the results you were going to get.

Beyond those tips, just use some basic common sense. There’s a huge demand for resveratrol right now. Something under five or 10 bucks might not even be resveratrol in the first place.

So, we want to look for a free trial. Don’t necessarily think you’re getting a great deal on the ultra-cheap “bargains,” and give it a try.

You don’t need to overcomplicate this process. One of the easiest things I’ve found is to go to resveratrol review sites who can offer you tips that will make it easy to choose. For example, I’d check out this buy resveratrol review site, and take a few minutes to watch the videos they have there.

If you want to avoid all the hassle of doing this research on your own, you can just go to that site and you’ll find links directly to companies that meet that criteria.

One thing that has baffled nutritionists for years is how the French, who eat a diet high in fat-filled cheeses and meats, tend to live longer and healthier lives overall than most Americans. Now, thanks to resveratrol, we understand that wine may be behind it.

This isn’t coincidental. The real answer appears to be a phytoalexin compound called resveratrol. Resveratrol is produced by some plants, mainly in the skins of fruit, to guard against bacteria and infection, and is a powerful antioxidant.

The only problem with resveratrol as the answer to the French Paradox is that the French diet doesn’t seem to contain enough of it to be clinically significant.

Almost no one will deny that when resveratrol has been tested in the lab, it produced benefits in nearly every instance. The lucky mice who were given resveratrol lived longer, but that’s just one part of it. They also had more energy and more lean muscle than their counterparts.

But hold on, there’s more…

For example, a group of mice who had been genetically engineered to have diabetes had their blood glucose levels moderate to just slight above normal after taking resveratrol.

This was’t quite an outright diabetes cure, but those results were promising enough that the decision was made to start ramping up human testing.

And now, as you’d expect, the internet is playing a large role in all of this. You’ve probably read the reports written with breathless enthusiasm, touting resveratrol as the wonder drug of the new millennium.

Is this massive amount of coverage warranted?

It might. The hype and promises surrounding resveratrol make it pretty hard to live up to. I’m not telling you something you don’t already know, but a magic fountain of youth doesn’t exist.

But maybe, just maybe, resveratrol supplements are the closest thing we have.

And since it only takes a minute or two, I’d think you’d want to check it out. You should be aware that resveratrol isn’t subject to drug purity laws because it’s not technically a drug, but is instead classified as a “nutrional supplement.”

You need to be a little cautious when you buy resveratrol — or any supplement for that matter — to make sure you’re buying a quality product. Because we have to harvest it from plants rather than producing it synthetically, a lot of time and effort goes into getting resveratrol. Which means that resveratrol supplements tend to vary in quality, along with their price.

I’ll address this next question before you even ask — it would be nearly impossible, unless you were a legendary alcoholic, to get enough resveratrol just from your regular daily food and drink. Resveratrol is most concentrated in red wine, but even with that you’d have to drink about liters a day.

So supplementation is going to have to be the way to go. But what should you look for when choosing resveratrol supplements to begin with?

Look for resveratrol supplements that are relatively, if not wholly, free of fillers. Because resveratrol breaks down at both high temperatures and under bright light, it’s also worth it to look for indicators that the supplements are kept in the appropriate light, heat and humidity conditions.

The very first thing I would suggest you do is head over to this resveratrol supplements review page, where you’ll find constantly updated reviews. There are also a few nice videos at that site that show you the exact steps you need to take to claim some great free resveratrol trial samples that a few companies are giving away. So it’s definitely worth a couple minutes to check out, and could save you significant amounts of money over the old “trial and error” method.

Just to sum up, whichever resveratrol supplements you choose to take, understand that it’s only a part of a health maintenance system. Don’t ignore things like exercise, eating the right foods, and paying attention to your psychological health.

Resveratrol isn’t a blank check that allows you to abuse your body with an unhealthy lifestyle. Can it help? According to the experiments, yes, it can. But it can’t undo EVERYTHING if you choose to abuse your body in other ways.
