Many people believe that acne affects people with oily skin alone. Well, things are actually different! There are other criteria that influence the appearance of acne and the skin type is not one of them; yet it is true that it affects fewer people with dry skin on the average. An unhealthy diet, hormonal changes, bacterial infections and a chaotic lifestyle represent the right premises for a dry acne skin outburst. Before starting any targeted treatment, it is important to identify the causes behind the acne problem. Yet, a double approach is necessary most of the time: one to cure acne and the other to reduce skin dryness.

To treat dry acne skin you have to keep it well moisturized while preserving the natural moisture content specific to the tissues. The skincare products normally used should contain some very soothing agents like aloe vera for instance that is good both for acne and for skin dryness. In case you do not have a single product to use for both aspects of the condition, there are plenty of home remedies that could prove useful. Callendula for instance is a herb with good antibacterial and regenerative properties that will accelerate the healing of the acne lesions while also dealing with the excessive dryness.

Oral medicines are often prescribed to treat dry acne skin, although in the majority of cases the treatment is topical. Ointments should be applied not only on the acne affected skin portions but also on more sensitive locations that could easily become affected: the areas around the lips, the nose, the eyes and even the neck. If there is acne spread to other body areas, clothing and hygiene rules are just as important as proper tissue hydration. Clothing could be a great relief or the source of even more pain if you don’t choose it carefully; therefore, go for cotton over any other synthetic material.

During summer people with dry acne skin face all sorts of challenges. A better air humidity works in favor of the skin dryness on the one hand, and on the other, it creates the right environment for an acne skin outburst. Therefore, it is highly indicated that you maintain some form of balance in the treatment of dry acne skin. Use cleansers that are alcohol free and find products that clean and disinfect without drying the tissues.

What Are Cataracts And How Are They Treated?

Tue ,15/09/2009

Cataracts cause “foggy” eyesight due to the eye’s lense becoming clouded over. Fortunately, of all the various eye problems out there, treating cataracts is typically easy and you can have your vision restored to its fullest with minimal hassle. So, are you curious about how to treat a cataract?

The most common operation used to treat cataracts is a simple and straightforward form of cataract laser surgery. This surgery basically removes the cloudy lens and may implant a new one. You do not have to wait for the problem to become extremely severe before opting to go in for surgery either. An eye specialist will give you some professional advice and help guide you to the right form of treatment. The operation is formed in only one day and you will not be required to remain in hospital overnight.

The best thing about having cataract surgery is that your eyesight will improve immediately once the operation is complete. Although it can take some months to be completely restored, you may need to wear some glasses until then. You may need a new prescription for the glasses because your eyesight has been altered.

You will also be required to take some form of eye drops for a while after the surgery, up to eight weeks. This is to make sure that you do not get any infection in the eye. After an operation on your eyes, it is important to avoid rubbing them and try to keep your eyes as clean as possible. Make sure you stay away from any makeup or shampoo that could cause irritation or infection.

It should not be forgotten that surgery always carries some risks with it, but very few patients actually have any serious complications when undergoing this surgery. Everything you do to treat medical problems comes with some degree of risk, but simple surgery has been proven to cure cataracts in almost all cases.

Take Time and Discuss Your Eyes and Vision With Your Eye Doctor – Cataracts Are Not an Eye Emergency

Natural Eye Care

A cataract is a clouding, opacity, yellowing, or accumulation of fluid in the lens of the eye that results in a loss of vision and interferes with your lifestyle. Most cataracts are related to aging, and by the time you reach the age of 70 most people will show some signs of cataracts. Age related cataract may occur in one eye first but with time will usually be present in both. The lens is a clear part of the eye that helps to focus light, or an image, on the tissue lining the back of the eye called the retina. The retina  is lined with the receptor cells that transform light particles into electrical impulses. A healthy lens is transparent due to the special proteins that help the layers repeat in a regular pattern that causes the least interference and passes the most light through.

The lens does some filtering of the ultraviolet radiation from the sun preventing  UV from reaching high levels in the retina. While the lens filters out UV in both the A and B bands, it filters virtually all of the UV radiation between 320 to 400 nan meters and the proteins responsible oxidize over time. Free radicals also increase and the lens yellows and loses transparency as water starts accumulating in-between the layers.

Eye surgery for glaucoma and other conditions can lead to cataract formation. Certain health conditions like diabetes can also cause cataracts, occasionally very rapidly and in some instances also rapidly reversible. Unfortunately, they are usually permanent. Prescription steroid medications used long term can result in cataract development. Traumatic cataracts result after serious eye injuries but usually will not progress over time like age related cataracts. Infants occasionally are born with cataracts or develop them in early childhood, These cataracts may be so small and enough off the line of sight that they do not affect vision. While technically a cataract, I feel an opacity needs to cause lifestyle interruptions before they should be labeled as a cataract. Cataracts are best described by function rather than form. If they do interfere with your daily life, the lenses may need to be removed. Radiation exposure can result in cataracts if the dose is high enough or accumulates over repeated exposure.

First and foremost, keep in mind that vision insurance benefits are a supplement to health insurance. If you do not have an occupation or affiliation that will allow you to acquire insurance, you may want to consider purchasing insurance on your own to take care of your medical needs. Yet the selection aspect can be puzzling to some since there are different kinds of vision insurance available.

Smoking is the best thing you can do if you want to develop cataracts at a young age. Smoking also is associated with the other leading causes of blindness, glaucoma and central retinal degeneration. Reducing your UV sun exposure by wearing quality sun glasses that meet A.N.S.I. standards is helpful. Sun wear that wraps and blocks sun exposure from the side is even more helpful. Although research studies have given mixed results, time will probably bear out a protective effect of antioxidants on the lens tissue. Supplementation with vitamin C, vitamin E, and special plant pigments  likely will be shown to reduce cataract development. Eating foods that are complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and less refined foods with a lower tendency to cause sharp rises and falls in blood sugar are associated with a decreased risk of cataract formation. Leafy green leafy vegetables, fruit, and other foods with antioxidants are always the best source of supplements.

Palming like this is one of the best eye exercise to relax your eyes, and can help improve your vision, especially during times of high stress and strain. So the next time you find yourself stressed out, feeling strained, and having some vision problems, take a timeout to perform the palming eye exercise. It will help you relax your eyes.

Coloured Contact Lenses

Fri ,11/09/2009

Have you wished you could change the color of your eyes?  Many of us have, from brown to blue or perhaps an exotic green.  Although there is no technique to essentially permanently change the color of your eyes, with color contact lenses you can switch up your look whenever you need.  Years ago unless you had some vision issues you weren’t a candidate for contacts.  Actually many of us who wore glasses on a fulltime basis couldn’t even qualify for contacts because of astigmatism or their need for bifocals.  Now everyone, including those who do not have any vision problems can wear these lenses including the color contact ones.

There are numerous retailers online who sell these to anyone that pays the fee and supplies their shipping address.  You see an increase in the sale of one size fits all color contact lenses around Halloween.  People dressing as a witch look for a grossly green pair, while a zombie might choose a pair that makes their eyes look white.  These are generally very cheap and being dispensable you can throw these color contact lenses out once November initial rolls around.

Your eyes are extraordinarily sensitive and as our mothers regularly told us, we only have one pair.  Thus it’s strongly recommended that if you are considering wearing a color contact lens and you do not have a vision problem that you need to still see an eye doctor.  The main reason for the reason is because in order for color contacts to be safe the eye wants to respire.

Everybody’s vision is different as is the shape of their eye.  If you are familiar with regular contacts you know that in order to receive them you need to go thru a fitting process.  During this routine, the optician, ophthalmologist or optometrist measures your eye to determine which lens will fit it best.  The one size fits all Halloween color contact lenses may fit one individual’s eyes just fine yet cause major problems in another’s.

If you need to experiment with these vision assists you can talk to your eye doctor about the way to do that.  Generally most will offer you a trial pair of color contact lenses in the hue you would like.  Then you’re allowed to take them home and wear them for an advised number of hours over the course of a week or 2.  Once the time has passed you visit the eye doctor again to report how you found the experience.  At this time, she or he will also check the condition of your eyes.

A box can be ordered if everything checks out and you’ve enjoyed wearing them.  If you already wear contacts, consider wearing the color contact lenses at times and your regular ones as well some days.  Experimentation is great as long as you have a professional giving you the green light to go ahead and try it.

Buy Good Cheap Contact Lenses Online

Thu ,10/09/2009

LASIK eye surgery is very popular, but there are still some that won’t get it. Some people are afraid of a laser going into their eyes, which is understandable, and others simply can’t afford the cost at this time. Other people are simply waiting until it has been around longer to be sure it is as perfect as it can be. Until the time comes for surgery, those waiting will continue to wear contacts and glasses, and possibly save money for that surgery. Meanwhile, they want to find cheap contacts so they have some money to set aside for later.

Where you buy your contact lenses will determine how much they will cost. What is great about low cost contacts is that you can generally find the same brands that might cost you more at your optician for much less. This means exactly the same lenses at a great price, and you won’t need to be concerned about the health of your eyes.

Those looking for cheap contacts often look online. As long as you use a reputable company, you can generally rest easy about what you are ordering. All you have to do is look at the side of the box to see what type of lens you need. The information is all there. You have to tell the online company that information and they can get you the lenses you need.

When buying cheap contacts, there is one thing you do have to look out for. When you receive them in the post, be sure to check the date on the lenses. Though getting cheap contacts means more money in your pocket, those savings will mean nothing if you have problems with your eyes later because you wore bad lenses. You could develop an infection, or old lenses could scratch your eye in a way that might require surgery or damage your sight permanently.
