Personalize Content to Suit Your Child
What’s special about this device compared to other e-readers designed for kids is that parents can gear this toy to appeal to their child’s personal tastes. It comes pre-loaded with one story, one email, and three songs, and holds up to five stories, ten songs, and three emails at a time. Via a standard Internet connection, you can customize some of the over ten existing stories and print coloring and activity pages featuring Scout and friends.
Another fun feature lets you choose and customize pretend emails to your child from family and friends. Write them a special “I love you” or “Happy Birthday” message, tell a joke, or simply encourage them to have fun and learn. The device then plays these emails out loud for your child to hear.
Easy Setup with Step-by-Step Instructions
The instruction booklet guides you through the comprehensive setup process, which takes under five minutes. You’ll need to download the LeapFrog Connect application for the Story Time Pad, connect the device to your computer via the included USB cable, and follow the clear online directions on how to personalize content by entering your child’s name, favorite stories and music, and email messages. Once you save all that data, your child is ready to play.
Kid-Friendly Operation
The Story Time Pad is easy for kids to operate on their own. A switch on the back slides to turn the device on and off. (In the case of an auto shutoff, the device will restart with the touch of any button.) The clearly labeled buttons on the lower part of the interface let kids select story, music, and message mode. Our testers liked that in music mode kids could hit the paw button and press the letters to make silly animal and other sounds. That way, they’re not simply listening, but are actually interacting with the device.
There’s also an ABC button that starts a mode where letters say their names when pressed. When kids press on one of the four character buttons on the top portion of the interface, they’ll hear Scout, Eli, Violet, or Penny say a few words.

Despite its small size, the Air Hogs Hyperactives Pro Aero GX car is powerful, aerodynamic, and packed with features. At 2.4 GHz, this RC car can reach speeds of 20 miles per hour. Recommended for kids 12 years and older, this car features a flexible roll bar that will turn the car right-side up if it flips. The car’s controller runs on a multiband frequency that allows kids to run up to 10 cars at once for lots of racing action.
High Speeds and Roll Bar Keep Car in Action
This RC car, with 2.4 GHz performance, can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. This is approximately 500 miles per hour in scaled speed. With this amount of speed, the car can really catch air off jumps. A flexible roll bar turns the car upright if it flips. Full Control of Speed and Direction
The driving difficulty level of this RC car is rated as expert and designed to give you full control over the motion of the vehicle. With a slow and fast mode, forward and backward lever, three-point turning control, and trim control button, the controller offers quick and accurate direction of the car.
The controller’s side knob turns to three points, allowing you to send the car left, right, and straight. The forward and backward lever is sensitive enough to give you control over your car’s speed during turns.
Charges on the Go
The controller takes six AA batteries (not included) and plugs into the RC car to charge. While the instructions estimate 30 to 50 minutes to charge the car, our testers found that once charging began, the process was much quicker. To preserve battery life, your controller will turn off after five minutes of disuse.
